Innovative Child Care that Empowers your community

What Makes KPSquared Different?

KPSquared Inc. is leading the advancement of innovative, family-centric child care across Alberta. We are focused on building infrastructure that responds to the increasing demands placed on families and the labour force.

Our 24-hour model is built for alignment. It integrates health care, education, and inclusive care to support the entire family unit, with flexibility designed for parents working outside standard hours—particularly in industries like oil and gas, health care, and hospitality. Far beyond basic childcare standards, our centres provide high-quality, connection-based environments that foster child development and help relieve the pressures parents face in balancing work and caregiving.

Family-centric care means designing systems that consider the needs of everyone responsible for a child’s wellbeing. It ensures that care aligns with work schedules, reduces parental stress, and strengthens family systems—economically, emotionally, and at the level of daily fundamentals.

KPSquared delivers 24/7 child care for children ages 6 months to 12 years—built as care infrastructure for families navigating non-traditional hours and demanding careers. Our model supports every area of child development—intellectual, emotional, physical, and social—within a safe, nurturing environment that feels more like a home than an institution. It’s designed for consistency, comfort, and connection

Rather than assigning children to a single classroom, our open-concept environment allows them to move through a variety of thoughtfully designed spaces. This approach encourages natural exploration, supports autonomy, and creates opportunities for deeper engagement throughout their day and night routines.

Our curiosity-based curriculum is designed to meet children where they are, fostering critical thinking, confidence, and creativity. For families requiring overnight care, we offer thoughtfully designed sleep rooms that reflect comfort, safety, and natural transitions, supporting healthy routines and a strong sense of security.

Inclusive Child Care (ICC)

At KPSquared, our Inclusive Childcare program is designed to support children with exceptionalities through individualized, connection-based care. Our Inclusive Care Director works closely with families to assess needs and coordinate one-on-one support, ensuring children receive care tailored to their developmental goals. Using adaptive materials and flexible curriculum strategies, we create environments where children of all abilities can engage, explore, and grow alongside their peers.

We work in partnership with FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) to help families access funding and resources that remove barriers to care. From initial needs assessments to daily implementation, we collaborate with parents and professionals to build a consistent and supportive care plan—so that every child is seen, supported, and given the tools to thrive.

Partnerships & Impact

Strategic Partnerships, Real Impact

At KPSquared, we believe child care must function as infrastructure—deeply embedded in community, economy, and policy. That’s why we actively partner with municipalities, funders, and sector leaders to build scalable, inclusive care solutions that respond to real-world needs.

Our partnerships are rooted in more than service delivery—they help cultivate a community culture anchored in collective care—where families are seen as foundational, support is strategic not situational, and every partnership becomes part of a broader movement to raise children and the economic conditions surrounding them. It’s a grassroots approach to stability—built from the ground up, family by family, system by system. Our collaborative efforts are designed to remove barriers for families and create long-term impact across Alberta.

Our Story

In 2014, founder Kyla Penner was a young mother with a successful shift working career in Alberta’s oil sands—forced to forfeit her career because there was no child care available outside of traditional hours. The system didn’t bend, so she built something that would.

What started as a single program in Fort McMurray has grown into a province-wide response to a broken system. Today, KPSquared has supported over 750 families across Alberta through five licensed locations, a dayhome agency, and a sixth centre currently in development. Our model continues to evolve to meet the realities of shift work, economic instability, and the growing demand for care that supports the entire family unit.

“Families are society’s most adaptable institution – a trait that is rooted in their constant need to adjust to ever-evolving environments. As organizations of all kinds consist of diverse family members, all of whom face unique realities, flexibility is key to the resiliency of families, the labour force and economy, and our greater society.”
